     A chronological history of architectural buildings.  Anyone interested in building
     structure from the 1970’s and 1980’s can find plenty of information here.  Information
     includes famous and well known architects and buildings of this era.  Many pictures
     both color and black/white are shown here to give the reader a better understanding.

     A short blurb about post-modernism.  Gives definition as a “mode of thought in architecture.”  Makes reference to the famous Best retail store design of crumbling walls.  The Best store design was by James Wines in 1972.

     An in-depth loot at the roots of post-modernism and a look at different aspects of
     post-modernism art.

     Has an extensive chart about this time period.  Includes subcategories of era.  Extensive information on all aspects of Post-modernism.  A large collection of pictures of art.  An in-depth history about the time period.  A large amount of information about famous designers including Michael Graves.  Drawings of floor plans shown next to pictures of selected buildings.

Jencks, Charles, Modern Movements in Architecture 2nd ed., Penguin Books, New york, 1987, p.374-389.

     Examines post-modernism as a major movement started in the late 1960’s.  States that
     post-modernism architecture is a reaction to Modern architecture.  There are many
     pictures of architectural buildings shown in the book.  Talks about specific artists such
     as Michael Graves, Robert Venturi, Charles Moore, Peter Eisenman and Richard
     meier.

Lucie-Smith, Edward, Visual Arts in the Twentieth Century, Harry N. Abrams Inc. Publishers, New York, 1997, P. 301-361.

     Organized by chapters of decades in chronological order.  Primary focus for source is
     1970’s and 1980’s.  Information about postmodernism in the United States and in
     Europe.  Talks about influences from all types of artists during these two decades from
     around the world especially from Europe and the U.S.

Tansey, Richard G., Gardiner’s Art Through the Ages, Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Publishers, New York, 1986, P.956-962.

     Description of Post-Modernism-the art of the 1970’s and 1980’s.  Includes example
     pictures of paintings, sculptures, photography and architectural structures as well as
     artists for each type of art.  This book is often used as a college textbook but can be
     found in most public and academic libraries.

Stockstad, Marilyn, Art History, Harry N. Abrams, Inc. Publishers, New York, 1995, P.1149-1167.

     A nice description of the Post-modernism time period.  There subcategories which
     Neo-Expressionism and European art.  Representative pictures from this era are
     shown.  Mentions of how Post-modern art form influence and affect the public.
     Mentions of well-known artists of this era.

ARTICLES

“Mother's house”, Alexander O. Boulton, American Heritage, July-August 1996 v47 n4 p94(8).

     Architect Robert Venturi planned and constructed what has since become known as
     'Mother's House' in Philadelphia, PA, in 1963-64. The house is now acclaimed as an
     example of postmodern architecture and likely the originator of the form. Its structure
     and influence are explored.

“Selling Graves”, Anonymous, Architecture, Nov 1997 v86 n11 p63(5).

     An interview with Postmodernist architect, Michael Graves. He has about 40 current projects that he is working on including building designs, tea pots, watches, and picture frames.  He is designed the scaffolding for the repair of the Washington Monument which he was working on at the time of the interview.  Talks about expanding his retail store were also mentioned.

     This site gives you access to great buildings from around the world.  There are documents hundreds of buildings and leading architects.  You can view 3D images, photographic images, architectural drawings, read biographies of architects.  There are also bibliographies, and web links.  To gather information from a particular time period, climate, elements, types, or styles.

Lobiondo, Maria, Princeton Patron Magazine, “Michael Graves, Archetype of the 90's", http://www.princetonol.com/patron/mgraves.html, December 31, 1998.

     A short biographical sketch of a Post-Modern architect.  An internationally known
     architect and Princeton University professor.  Famous for many designs including
     Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Hotels.  Graves will sketch almost any type of object and
     he will give that object a new look from his own creativity.
